World’s Largest Rubber Duck Comes to Owen Sound!

The World’s Largest Rubber Duck Comes to Owen Sound!
From July 7th to 9th, the world’s biggest rubber duck made its appearance in Owen Sound!  The 30,000-pound duck had previously been stationed in Toronto for the Canada Day weekend before making its way to Owen Sound.
The duck is a replica of Florentijn Hofman’s Rubber Duck sculpture and has been rented by the Ontario government for the month of July into mid-August in celebration of Canada’s 150th anniversary.  The goal of the rubber duck is to bring together communities to see something fun and new.  People of all ages have been enjoying the enormous, six-storey high rubber duck.
The rubber duck has previously travelled all over the world and is a hit everywhere it goes.  Though there are many replicas of Hofman’s sculpture, the rubber duck rented by Ontario is the largest available.
In Owen Sound, the duck drew quite a crowd over the three days it was there.  The duck was parked at the harbour front and was readily available for photo-ops and admiring.  Residents from all over south-western Ontario made the trip to Owen Sound just to see this larger-than-life toy!
If you missed the rubber duck while it was in Owen Sound, do not worry!  The duck will be making appearances in Sault St. Marie, Midland, Amherstburg, and Brockville before saying farewell to Ontario on August 13th.  Keep up with the duck and its visits here.
